The RPL would like your input for the free confrence call this Friday. Evan Money will be interviewing Shawn Walker. Please e-mail any questions you have for Shawn to info@therpl.com
Thank you for your participation and we look forward to having your questions on the air.
TheFordReport.Com contacted Mr. Walker directly with questions based on some of the things being said about him in the playing community. Here are the questions and answers from that conversation:
1. Q: There are allegations being made that you embezzled about $250,000
from the NPPL. What is your response to these allegations and rumors?
A: They are just that, rumors and untruths. I spent every ounce of my being
to make the Pacific Paintball concept work. (Media based company with
leagues, web, print and TV). I worked 15 hour + days, sacrificed family,
money and sometimes sanity to make it work. I love this sport and have
spent my entire adult life within the industry. The cards just weren’t
in it. Bad economy, fields closing, teams diminishing, sponsors cutting
back. Those are the reasons the company didn’t make it.
2. Q: What was the reason given for your dismissal from Pacific Paintball?
A: Like I said above, the company was in bad shape. We couldn’t get the
revenue to make it viable. I was steering the ship and the ship was
going down. They needed to make a change in hopes of getting more money
to keep the company going. It was a last ditch effort and obviously
didn’t work. I have no regrets. I wanted the company to be successful
with or without me. A lot of people are pointing figures and trying to
through blame, but its a lot simpler than all that. The company didn’t
make it because of what I mentioned above. When there is a high end
separation the accusations and rumors fly. It has happened too many
times in the paintball industry to count. Dan Bonebrake and National,
Gino and KEE, etc. etc.
3. Q: Some people are questioning the timing of the RPL’s emergence so
soon after the announcement that the NPPL was going bankrupt. Can you
clarify the timeline and your thought processes concerning the RPL?
A: The RPL was going to be announced this week with or without the BK of
the NPPL. The RPL is designed to be complimentary to the NPPL and help
restore the base of paintball players. We were ready to go. I had
everything lined up.
4. Q: Is the RPL going to be a national league or a regional league?
A: Regional. West Coast base for now.
5. Q: What will become of the business units of Pacific Paintball, such
as PB2X, Paintball.Com, and the XPSL?
A: The way I understand it a representative of the state will decide the
fate of the assets. He/She will asses value and determine the best way
to liquidate. There may be an auction or private bids. From what I have
been told it will be 30-60 days before anything happens.
6. Q: How did you get control of the Camp Pendleton Paintball Park?
A: I have a strong relationship with the USMC. I was the one who originally
negotiated the bid two years ago. I was also the one who negotiated the
Marines sponsorship of the NPPL. When the BK was announced I was
contacted to see if I could continue running the park in quick fashion.
They didn’t want a gap in services. I quickly put a plan together and
was awarded the contract. Pacific Paintball pulled all of their assets
out from the park including rental equipment, compressor, inventory, etc
and I brought in all new items.
7. Q: What format will you be using in the RPL?
A: 3 and 5 player format. I have a few tweaks that will make it easier for
newer players to understand and play but nothing crazy.
8. Q: What gun rules will you enforce?
A: Semi-Auto only
