Dave and I’s friend Willie (of TechPB.Com) has been bugging my supervisor Dave Edelman to come out and give paintball a try for some time…Dave and his son showed up a few weekends ago at Kohn Sports to give it a try.

Dave is a very nice guy…which means that he’s not your typical hyper-aggressive paintball player.   His innate niceness serves him well, especially when supervising a hairy, foul-tempered, hyper-aggressive paintball player like me.

During the course of the day Dave and his son watched Willie and I on-field while we had fun, and towards the end of the day we played a game that Willie and Mike Phillips from TechPB created as a non-painful way to try out paintball and get the rush of shooting at someone, but without the pain of getting shot.    Basically, three players limited to the dead box area take on three unarmed players as they try to move around the field to collect the parts to assemble a marker.  They win if they get all the pieces of the gun together and shoot a box sitting on top of the Dead Box.  The others win if they shoot all of the players trying to get the gun pieces put together.

Willie fell first, probably to Willie’s son, while I fell to Dave, who was using my gun!  My friend Bobby got the marker put together but got shot by I think all three of the guys in the deadbox.  Afterwards we had a variety of paintball markers for the guys to try, and we discovered that Dave is a spool-valve kind of guy.  Willie’s PMR and Dave got along really well, and I even got to hear Dave let out what I call the “High Rate of Fire Giggle”.   You have to experience it to understand.

In either event, everyone had a good time, and I’m hoping as time allows Dave comes out some more.  It’s a great way to blow off steam, and the smile Dave had on his face after he fulfilled every supervisor’s dream of shooting an employee was worth the momentary pain of getting shot by him.
