Respected Tampa Bay Player Rod “Sir Rod” Selner takes a very masculine, politically incorrect and older school than Steve Davidson look at the term “Marker” and the morass of Political Correctness that it sprang from:
It’s called a paintball gun. It shoots paint, if it quacks like a duck…..
I have markers I use them to make nice little birthday and anniversary cards for my wife.
I draw cute little flowers she like’s them, I’m cheep!
Cue for you guys! Chicks dig hand made greeting cards.
Markers, Sharps Marker. Can’t play paintball with it, I can see saying “Hey ref that player is marked”.
The Marked player would have Sharps marker doodles all over him and be Marked!
“Hey Ref he’s Marked.” Try to visualize that. *Injection of humor here*
Come on your not trying!
How about paintball suppliers, proshops, fields have their logos and names (The Ford Report) on colorful Sharpies markers…Now that’s a Paintball marker.
Politically correct, Why?
Because we are a bunch of dummies/morons/and idiots, letting the Political Correctness come out in US because we don’t want our Paintball Guns to be confused with real firearms.
You could say “Hey I gunned him real good.”, Or “I’m gunning for you.”
Or how about “Hey I Marked him real good. Or I’m Marking for you.
What the heck is a “GAT? What does that stand for “Gatling Gun”?
I’m sure mom and dad will grimace when they hear that one.
Hey that’s a nice gat some one would say to Furby. “Yea that’s Phatty the Gat.
My friend called his paintball gun “Foe Hammer”. In French “Faux” is translated fake or false.
I think he meant it to be like an enemy of hammer, why would you put that on your paintball gun?
Or maybe he meant it like a golf shot….shouting down the fairway….FOE.
When I told my ex- wife back in the late 80′s I was getting a new paintball gun she thought I meant a Paint Spraying gun like a Binks or Gold Blatt, Paint spray gun.
Oh, I painted professionally at that time. I was a painter, Like houses/cars/people/ peoples cars especially if they were driving by, Like drive by painting.
What is a barrel Condom? Isn’t that what there giving the kids at school in sex education, I like barrel blocker, barrel plug or tie a knot in it, anything else besides “Condom”.
Is it like a condiment for your hot dog. That’s going one step beyond “Safe Food”.
Why do we care what the non playing public think of paintball?
One time at an old field in St. Petersburg, there was a fire from a military smoke grenade.
On the news the reporter says “Survivalists” had set the woods on fire playing a game called Paintball. Remember it used to be called “The Survival Game”? No guns were mentioned. They report what ever they want to. The non playing public believes what they want to.
The non playing public are going to think what ever they want too no matter what we call a paintball gun
Who has benefited from the paintball community disposing of reality?
Are we calling a paintball gun a marker because we are ashamed of the association of firearms? Because Guns, firearms are on the run, the liberals at every opportunity use.
Gun violence to beat down Gun Ownership in the U. S. Protected under the 2nd Amendment.
Who is the mamby-pamby group who started calling a paintball gun a paintball marker. Not the mil-sim or scenario crowd, not the speedball crowd.
Who benefited from the “Political Correctness” of calling a paintball gun a marker?
No one to my knowledge.
We all did it, I am as much to blame as the whole speed ball/mil-sim/scenario/outlaw oops slip of the tong….paintball playing community.
I think we all thought that the public would be hornswoggled into thinking that paintball guns are toys and won’t hurt any one.
When its clearly embossed on every paintball gun, or its packaging
“THIS IS NOT A TOY”
Unfortunately lots of news worthy events such as drive by paintball shootings, neighbor hood paintball shootings, paintball Cop shootings, older kids with more experience shooting up on newbies I’ve heard some call that a TARGET RICH ENVIROMENT.
You should be ashamed of yourself for giving paintball a bad name like,
People shooting endangered animals and pets. “Hello Kitty”. Hey Pig Tech?
Not saying that Bill ever did that. That was only the name of an obscure old school paintball team a long time ago in a Ford galaxy(California) far far away.
He didn’t did he Dawn??? BILL!
Illegal Paintball shootings made the news and made us all uncomfortable because we don’t want to inhibit the next generation of paintball players, by the parents saying “IT’S TOO DANGEROUS”. “GUNS OH NO GUNS THE Horror, THE Horror!”.
“OH NO YOU PLAY PAINTBALL!” you must be a “SURVIVALIST”.
You have “Contract Killer” hand grips. YOU MUST BE A GANGSTER
What’s with all the Skulls? Skulls represent DEATH..
Surely we don’t want our sport associated with DEATH.
Gestapo wore “the death’s head” on there lapels. Do we want to look like Nazis?
Hey Bond Chick. Well only if we can look that good in leather.
We the paintball community, are know by our associations.
The company we keep, the trappings of our sport.
If we act like gangsters, that’s what the public sees.
If it walks like a duck.
Hater Paintball wazz up?
Guns/Glock/PPK/Smith&Wesson/Bren/Colt/Browning/Thompson/Enfield/.45cal/.50cal/9mm/ ect ect ect. I was trying to name a lot of guns, but as you see the list is endless. Oh and lets not forget H&K!
“A Rose By any other name would prick as sweet”
Hey lets start calling Paintball Guns a “PRICK”.
When you get a bad hit, you know one of those bleeders, that you almost need a real medic for, you would say “See what that Prick did to me”. And it would be true.
I think most of the paintball playing community is tired of “Political Correctness”.
The public has been aware of paintball for say 20 years or more now. Go back to the episode on “Saint Elsewhere” where the hospital staff went to play paintball.
They were wearing shop safety goggles like we use to wear. By the way, I still have both of my eyes. I have no intention of calling a paintball gun anything but what it is.
What the paintball world needs now is a dose of reality.
Quote Sgt.Barnes from the movie Platoon “I am reality”.
So you all don’t have to charade/fool/Foe out the non playing public any more they know what a paintball gun is and they know it’s not a Marker.
They have seen enough of them at Wal-Mart.
If it walks like a duck, Quacks like a duck, it must be a duck.
Marker Smarker. What’s in a name?

You make some really good points.
How ever try checking into an airport with a paintball gun on a regular basis, all they is is blah blah blah blah gun.
It doesnt work, combine that with stupid people not understanding a brittish accent, and suddenly you have two big armed police men with the biggest guns I have ever seen staring down at me and my little pink ego with a WTF expression on their face.
It is since that day I have refered to my gun as a Sharpie.

You handsome nut. *kiss*
It’s a marker. It’s a gun. Get over yourself. Personally, I’m all for calling it a Prick. *wicked grin*
If it makes parents happy to call it a marker -which means their child gets to play- then by all means call it a marker.
If you want to call it a gun so you can say, “I’m gunning for you”- whatever floats your boat.
Are a lawyer and an attorney the same thing? What about a physician and a doctor? It’s a gun; it’s a marker. Same difference.
I’m a girl. I play paintball. And I’ve got you in my sights.
