Rod “SirRod” Selner speaks out again about some of the blatant cheating that goes on in recreational and scenario paintball. We have unconfirmed reports of several cheaters viciously beaten for having tools on the field, but no evidence suggesting that SirRod had anything to do with it.
This is disturbing to me. I’m seeing a lot of players in the scenario forums that admit to carrying tools on the field. Some very important players who have the community’s ear. I was completely surprised by the blatant admission of breaking this important rule. Don’t you all realize that tools on the field are illegal? It’s written in the waivers you signed to be able to play in the game!
This is probably the second oldest rule in paintball, the first being keep your goggles on. Every field Ref keeps players under their charge safe by enforcing the rules. I know there are a lot of paintball fields around the world today, and I’m sure they all have this rule enforce. Its just common sense every player knows it.
When you signed on the dotted line you agreed to abide by the rules of that field. The rules are there for us the player’s enjoyment of the game. You know, safety first? If you have a velocity adjuster (VA) you have the ability to turn your paintball gun up and shoot hot. I have a round scar on my left forearm from a Tippmann A-5. They were mad because our team had been running them all over the field all day Saturday and most of the day Sunday. They turned there guns up so they could get even or punish the opposite side. I got the brunt of their anger.
I was hit and said so and held my arms up to signify that I was leaving when I got a burst from several player who had turned there paintball guns up past the safety limits set in the GRSP, field owners and producer of the game. The producer and head ref were concerned for my injury. The hit took five of the seven layers of skin off and left a round scar that looks like an eclipse of the sun. I have never carried any tools in any game I have ever played for 24 years. I understand sometimes it’s accidental rushing to chrono and then hitting the insertion point.
You just forget that you have that velocity adjustment tool in your pocket. I would be highly embarrassed if I were found having a VA tool in my pocket.
A lot of the MillSim paintball guns have fake magazines that are touted to be able to carry tools in them. I know the manufacturers are aware of the GRSP that keeps tools off of the playing field. But there is this darn tool box that any one who owns an A-5 or BT paintball gun can store them in. Mind you, there are others.
A lot of the time I am a player/ref. You will not know I am on staff. But if I find players with tools on the field I will allow you to leave the field.
You can deposit the tools at your staging area, or Camp site.
Then resume you game play. I never want to ruin anyone’s fun.
I will record your number however and pass it along to all the other refs just in case you do it again. If you’re found with tools twice your player event pass will be punched. I have found players who will have an allen wrench on the end of there battle swab. If I see that I will punch your event player pass and ask you to leave the field, that’s blatant cheating. The Rules are quite simple: it says “NO TOOLS” of any kind. Come on guys having tools on the paintball field is cheating no different than wiping or going out of bounds and not calling yourself out. If you break this simple rule then what other rules are you breaking? Rules are there for everyone’s safety. Safety is the number one concern all scenario producers take safety very seriously. You need to as well. You could cause that producer or field owner to lose his insurance.
I have scars from players who turn up there velocity on the field. Play honest play fair, don’t take tools on the field. I’m sure I have made someone mad but I don’t care. Safety is my number one concern it should be yours as well. Let’a all get on board with being safe and don’t turn up your paint shooter. Honesty and fair play are paramount to having fun at paintball and after all it is only a game.
