Bob “Saucy Aussie” Cartwright, was involved in a major auto collision February 5th in St. Petersburg, Florida.
The recently divorced father of two was in town to visit his children, and was sitting at an intersection in the St. Pete area in his 2000 Chevy Suburban with his 5 and 8 year old daughters in the back when a stolen vehicle collided with a Ford F150 and Cartwright’s Suburban.
The driver of the stolen vehicle, a Honda Accord, fled the scene after the accident and was later apprehended by police. It’s unknown at this time what charges will be pending.
Immediately after the accident Mr. Cartwright called 911 and credits St. Pete police, fire and ambulance for arriving on scene within two minutes of his phone call. EMT’s checked his daughters at the scene and found no injuries. Mr. Cartwright was checked and released at the scene as well, but was in obvious pain today.
St. Pete Police calculated that the suspect in the stolen Honda Accord was traveling at around 60 miles an hour at impact with the Ford F150 and Mr. Cartwright’s suburban. At first glance there doesn’t appear to be much damage to Bob’s Suburban, but closer inspection reveals that the driver’s seat back is broken, the dash with the HVAC controls and radio are completely broken loose, the rear frame is bent inward about 3 inches and only two doors open now. Amazingly, Mr. Cartwright drove the vehicle home, but has been advised not to drive it again.
We will continue following this story as it develops, including what charges are given to the suspect arrested after the accident.
