Undertakers Paintball raises $9500 for Relay for Life

Undertakers paintball team raised $9,500 for the May 21st American Cancer Society Relay for Life event in Toms River, NJ. The team donated $4,200, which was the event’s single largest contribution, and ‘Takers’ Treasurer and Co-Captain Craig Rutledge assembled a team called the Rut Raiders which raised an additional $5,300 contributing significantly to the event’s grand total of $68,000 raised.

Each Relay for Life event is a 24 hour walk-a-thon where one member of every team has to be on the track and moving at all times. But more than just a walk-a-thon, Relay for Life includes music, food, games and fun for the whole family.

The team’s participation in this year’s Relay for Life came as an extension of last year’s HitMan Tour 2010: Contract Cancer Killer. Team founder Hercules Papadogiannis committed himself last season to raising money to fight cancer and participated in 42 paintball events.

When asked why adjust their focus from a series of paintball events to a one time charity event, the HitMan said:

It was important to me after losing so many friends and close family members to this uncontrollable disease. I felt I could make a difference and if I couldn’t at least I knew I tried. The main idea behind the tour was to play as many events in one year and try to raise money at each event. I ended up doing 42 events in 1 year. WOW I know it was a lot of events. The one thing I learned and learned fast was that it was very hard to get people to donate over and over at events. So I created a onetime fundraiser event that went off very well. With the support of teams we made a nice dent and donated the event money raised towards American Cancer Society “Relay For Life”.
