This weekend was also a fund raiser for Game Writer “Georgia” Joe Hamilton, who’s been dealing with health issues that have landed him in the hospital for emergency surgery on his neck, with more on the way to stabilize it and to hopefully improve his condition. As of right now, he is still in some pain and forced to use a cane to get around, but his medical team is confident that any further damage to his spinal cord can be prevented and hopefully improve his condition.
The game was separated into two sessions, Saturday and Sunday play. After each day’s play, Field Owner Billy Smith held an auction of donated gear and goodies donated by Vanguard, The Ford Report, , Valken, SoBe Paintball and many generous individuals, including Shawn Collins and Meghan Collins, who did a bake sale in Indiana to benefit Joe, the proceeds of which went directly to Joe and his family to help defray travel, medical, and living expenses. While Joe has continued working during his recovery from his first surgery (which drives his friends nuts!) the continuing costs of going to Emory in Atlanta have put a heavy burden on his family. With more surgical procedures coming, these costs are going to continue.
The total given to Joe this weekend from direct donations, the charity auctions, and proceeds from paint sales totaled over $6000. Reduced to tears, Joe was unable to put into words the gratitude he felt for his paintball family coming together to support him during this difficult time. Ashley, Tinsley and I on behalf of The Ford Report want to thank Billy Smith, Frank Connell, KEE Action Sports, Gino Postorivo, Andy Potter, and the numerous individual donors for their support for “Georgia” Joe Hamilton!
