This year’s annual Paintfest event at one of Europe’s best paintball venues rocked the English countryside last weekend. NPF Bassetts Pole set in the heart of the UK run by Ged Green of WDP / Angel Sports / NPPL fame has hosted the Paintfest event for the past three years. Incorporating an episode of it’s regular Diamond Wars scenario series into the summer festival along with this years Mil-Tac and Zombie vs Humans games meant that ballers from all over Europe and overseas had a chance to play any kind of ball. This year’s event attracted players from all over the UK, Germany, Poland, France, the Netherlands, Iceland with a sprinkling from the United States – all added to the international flavour!
The event saw a massive 60% growth on player numbers compared to those of 2012 and reports after the event are coming in thick and fast – many exclaiming that Paintfest 2013 was THE event of the year so far…with most already asking for the dates for 2014!
The Paintfest event this year was spread over 3 days as opposed to the usual two and was able to take great advantage of the unusually warm and sunny British Summer that has been in full force over the past couple of weeks? The torrential downpour of rain on the Saturday night during the awesome Players party did not dampen anyone’s spirits with players and staff donning rain ponchos and dancing the night away!
Paintfest is one of the “must-do” events on the British summer paintball calendar and with sponsors such as Enola Gaye pyrotechnics, RAP 4 and Planet Eclipse this year was awash with industry traders at the Paintfest Trade Expo – BZ Paintball, Just Paintball, Tippmann, Contour Cameras, NPF/ WDP, Lips / GI Milsim, Warped Sports, Dye and a special charity Wishes for Kids all added to the unique atmosphere that is Paintfest.
Free camping was available on site from the Friday for anyone wishing to stay over and players wholeheartedly took over the entire camping zone – so much so that NPF had to make more space available to meet demand?
All three event games saw huge numbers of players battling it out across the NPF woodland with the main event saved till the Sunday’s Diamond Wars event when hundreds of players got stuck in for what was an awesome strategic game culminating in a huge gunfight for the final mission punctuated with masses of pyro courtesy of sponsors Enola Gaye!
Comments from players on the UK scenario forum speak for themselves:-
Thank you to the NPF crew who have pulled off a cracking weekend in every respect even the torrential rain did not dampen the Players Party and the Marshalls were brilliant too
The organisation the marshals ( some of the best ive seen, the staff knew what was going on, and got stuck in when needed ). players and sportsmanship was fantastic terrific friendly banter
Best weekend of the year, easy.
What a weekend.
As the lads have said it was a goodun.
The place was jumping, the campsite was one of the busiest pball campsites ive ever seen, and that was on a friday.
The trading area was great, one of the biggest spreads of traders ive seen in a long time, everyone seemed to be there, lots of folk buying paint, kit, markers . . it all seemed to be flying out the door.
With the huge demand for tickets and final player number seen for this year’s true Summer festival of Paintball – Ged and his team predict that Paintfest 2014 could go off the scale….watch this space for further details. Call NPF on +44 (0)121 323 1000
